Review: Ginch Gonch Men’s Bull Rider Sports Brief
After I posted about Ginch Gonch underwear, I decided that I deserved a new pair of boxer briefs. So, I ordered the Ginch Gonch Men’s Bull Rider Sports brief and a matching pair of ladies’ briefs for Rachel. Hers are still on backorder, but mine arrived a couple of weeks ago. I’ve had the chance to wear them in a couple of different situations: 1) An evening hanging around the house with nothing else on, 2) A lazy Saturday watching college football and grilling chicken outside, and 3) A full day at work.
The Look: 9/10
I love the way the Bull Rider sports brief looks. It’s like wearing underoos all over again. The front is “just okay”. The white briefs are lined in blue along the seams. The side panels have a fancy red cowboy style print and the band is blue with “ginch gonch” repeated in white all the way around.
The back is what I love the most. On the top, solid red mimics the shoulder fabric of a cowboy’s shirt. In the middle of this red patch, it looks like someone stamped the University of Texas longhorns logo in white. This bull stamp is distressed so as to appear worn from riding horses (or bulls as the name implies) in your underwear all day. The nifty cowboy print continues on the back of the legs.
Overall, I think the look is great. It’s difficult for me to hide these under my pants. I find myself looking at my own rear in the mirror more often than is probably considered healthy.
The fit: 7/10
The Ginch Gonch sports brief is shorter than I expected. I normally wear boxer brief style underwear, and the legs of these sports briefs are cut quite a bit higher than I’m used to. I’d say they cover half the distance down my thigh as the average boxer briefs in my rotation. They’re probably a little shorter than I’d like, but the fit is definately growing on me. They’re certainly not as short as briefs, though.
The sports brief is very form fitting. It clings to the body like a second skin. The crotch area is constructed in such a way that the eye is drawn to the center and the cut of the brief along with the pattern of the seems emphasizes the “package” more than the average boxer brief.
The feel: 8/10
The bull rider sports brief is quite soft. It’s 95% cotton and 5% lycra so it stretches to conform to the body without constricting it. If I’m spending the day inside, this is by far my favorite underwear. When wearing the Ginch Gonch sports briefs around the house and all day at work, I was extremely comfortable.
While I was grilling outside in 90 degree weather with 85% humidity, they weren’t so comfortable. I’ll admit that these aren’t comfortable conditions in general, but I did find that the Bull Rider sports briefs didn’t seem to breathe as well as my regular boxer briefs. I was noticeably more sweaty in the crotch than normal. It wasn’t excessive to the point of being visible, but it was certainly less comfortable than I’m used to.
Overall: 8/10
I highly recommend the Ginch Gonch Bull Rider Sports Brief. It’s fun and comfortable. These briefs may even be considered sexy – Matthew McConaughy’s version of sexy rather than the James Bond’s. Although they are “sports briefs”, they’re much better for watching sports from the comfort of your couch than for actually playing sports. They just don’t seem to breathe well in hot, humid conditions. Still, they’re the first things I’ll put on following my morning run (after I’ve showered, of course).
