Pretty in Plaid

We recently discovered a great brand for the younger set (i.e. Tweens – age 25) called Spreegirl. Their intimates and sleepwear are cut for more petite figures and designed with teen style in mind.

My teenaged daughters were excited to see they had a plaid line. The “Pretty in Plaid” set from Spreegirl has cute but functional mix-and-match pieces including pants, a hoodie, a tank, a t-shirt and shorts. The plaid flannel pants come in purple and black or hot pink and black, and have an adjustable drawstring waistband for a great fit. The matching t-shirt is 100% cotton and comes in grey with contrasting pink trim to match the pink and black plais, or the black T has contrasting purple trim to match the purple and black plaid bottoms.

The cotton hoodie was my older daughter’s favorite. She likes form fitting ribbed knits and really long sleeves over her long, slender arms. This hoodie offers the long, lean fit she likes with a plaid pocket in front to keeps your hands cozy, and a hood lined with the same plaid. The bright, contrasting stitching adds just a touch of femininity without being girly.

My younger daughter preferred the shorts and tank because she is always hot. The boxers come in the same 2 plaid options as the flannel pants, and the ribbed waistband also has the adjustable tie. She accidentally put hers in the dryer, which the tag says not to do, and the boxers came out fine but the tie in the waistband started to unravel. She just tied the ends off in knots.

The pieces on the Spreegirl site suit all different styles. They aren’t all flannel and simple. We loved the “Slip into Nature” Water Lily Slip! The water lily printed mesh fabric is pretty and unique. The triangle cups are tiny for petite figures, and the satin ribbon trim along them adds elegance. Adjustable straps and gathering under the bust line help with fit, and the lettuce trim along the shorter skirt is flouncy and fun! You may need to buy a size up in this nightie. The small is definitely a junior small, not ladies small.

We’re excited that Spreegirl also features bamboo lounge wear that takes inspiration from retro styles, combined with the current free spirit of the Californian girl. The Relaxed Modern line is made from eco-friendly bamboo fabric with natural wicking and a soft texture. In addition they have a specialty Plus Size line named Spreegirl Curves.

And if you’re still looking for the perfect fit this Halloween, their sister site, Seven til Midnight, features more mature lingerie and has a 2010 costume catalog online. I’ve already seen pirates, Wonderland characters and bumblebees this season – but I love the Seven til Midnight “Girls with a past” section of their catalog. Here you’ll find flappers, hippies, Renaissance velvets, native American styles, and a mini skirted Marie Antoinette. Don’t forget your makeup mole and updo with that costume!

My daughter will be wearing their Free Love psychedelic print dress. It has bright purple satin trim to really catch the eye, and oversized daisies along the skirt and on the choker neckband. The open back is sexy and fun, but doesn’t shift too much – the dress still stays in place well. She likes the flared sleeves, and plans to wear the dress with short, coral leggings in case any Halloween parties have any challenges like limbo that might make the short skirt uncomfortable. Pairs great with those platform gogo boots you love to wear!
