How to Keep your Feet Kushy

Kushyfoot is the first hosiery brand to incorporate the ancient healing art of Reflexology in your footwear to help keep your feet feeling refreshed all day. They make trouser socks, knee highs, foot covers, toe covers, athletic socks, tights and men’s socks that massage with every step.

toesocksA 3-dimensional padded area with a wavy design at the ball of the foot provides a massaging cushion between your feet and the hard soles of the inside of your shoes. This can relieve achy feet, which then releases stress and fatigue throughout your entire body.

Kushyfoot hosiery products are made of soft elastane and premium nylon for ultimate comfort and extra durability. Their athletic socks are made of a blend of combed cotton, nylon and elastane for added cushion in your sport shoes.

Here’s an extra tip - On the bottom of each page of the website is an interactive “Sock Selector”. Scroll through a visual list of shoe types, select the shoe you’ll be wearing, and the right Kushyfoot products for that type of shoe will be presented to you instantly! For example, I selected High Boots and got a list of: Opaque Knee Length, Sheer Knee Highs, Knee Socks, Cotton Casual Crew, Pinstripe Knee Highs, Support Knee Length, Microfiber Tights and Fishnet Tights. I’d go with the fishnets, personally, so I clicked on those. I was given the product description and Add to Cart option for the Kushyfoot fishnets with massaging soles - $23.97 for 3 pairs.

I thought it was funny that a sock site offered Footless Tights - but it turns out they come with a Free pair of Ultra Low Cut Foot Covers! My daughter wears leggings with ballet flats a lot, so she tried the nylon foot covers and the lace foot covers. She said they stayed on great throughout the day and hid well in her shoes. She loved the extra cushioning they provided. The lace pair pulled a bit where the tops of her toes rubbed. I tried their Tights, and those babies won’t run a bit. I kept rubbing my fingernail across them to see what would happen, but they were sturdy and soft. They also offer toe socks, with a space for each toe, which are hit with teens for some reason. We care for our Kushyfoot items just like our other hosiery - nothing extra needed there.

Whether you are wearing casual shorts or an evening dress, there is a Kushyfoot style that can be completely hidden from view in any shoe - and make your feet feel kushy!

Fashion by the Book

ninagarcia_lNina Garcia - fashion director of Marie Claire magazine, Target’s 2010 Style Expert and judge of the hit Lifetime reality series Project Runway - has authored a new book. She already penned 3 bestselling books on style. Her new “Nina Garcia’s Look Book: What to Wear for Every Occasion” is an extremely comprehensive list of real life situations with detailed information on how to dress for each occasion. I was surprised by how all-encompassing the subject matter was - What to wear to meet your new boyfriend’s friends, what to wear to a child’s soccer game, what to wear to your daughter’s wedding, What to wear to a broadway play… the list goes on and on. And even if you aren’t heading to a Broadway show anytime soon, you can easily translate the chapter to help you decide what to wear to your local theatre or orchestra.

Every woman has stood in front of her closet full of favorites and wailed “What should I wear?” In Nina Garcia’s Look Book, style guru Nina Garcia divulges her fashion knowledge and adds a bit of common sense. She describes the clothes, accessories, and strategies used to create personalized and situation appropriate looks. True style is not about having a closet full of expensive and beautiful things—it is instead about knowing when, where, and how to utilize your collection. With Nina by your side, you can’t go wrong.

I, of course, noted the chapter missing about underwear. Hey Nina, I’ll collaborate with you! What to wear under your wedding dress, what to wear under white pants, how to make a swimsuit weak on support actually swimable, what to wear in the bedroom with a new beau… my list can probably go on and on as long as hers!

The drawings (paintings?) through the book are beautiful. Ruben Toledo is a painter, sculptor, and illustrator. His artwork has appeared in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and the New York Times, among many other publications. His well placed artwork and the overall pretty but clean layout of the book make this quite an eye pleaser. Now, you can’t just flip through the book and look at pictures to get ideas of how to throw outfits together. The drawings are a bit too Vogue for that. You will need to do some actual reading.

Luckily Nina Garcia’s Look Book
goes beyond simply listing staples you might have in your wardrobe and suggesting how to wear them. It offers real life advice for situations - beyond the clothes. Like “Meeting the new boyfriend’s posse DON’TS” or “Setting the mood for a cocktail party”. Here are some examples:

  • Match your lipstick to your nail polish for a cocktail party. And definitely make sure the polish isn’t chipped.
  • Don’t sit near the stage at a comedy club if you’re shy. Comedians can smell a reluctant victim a mile away.
  • Mix potato chips, blue corn chips and sweet potato chips for a Red, White and Blue effect at a 4th of July party.
  • There are 65+ looks in the book and tons of quotes and information throughout. And I love that she added “What to wear when volunteering.” Now you can go from the office, to an animal shelter, and out to dinner with your future inlaws — and always stay in Style!

    Swimwear and Lingerie

While we normally reserve our swimwear related posts for Crush the Turtle, I thought I’d end my 5 month blogging hiatus for a special post this week. After all, this post is about swimwear and lingerie so at least half of the subject matter is out of Crush’s area of expertise.

It’s not often we review other sites, but Swimwear and Lingerie is a fantastic collection of basic knowledge on just about every aspect of (you guessed it) swimwear and lingerie. If you are, let’s say clueless about garters, you might check out the cool writeup of garters and garter belts at swimwearandlingerie.com. You won’t be an expert after reading it, but you’re also not going to get swindled by the used car saleswomen at Victoria’s Secret.

Similarly, the site throws a wide net over many different lingerie related topics. Consider it to be swimwear and lingerie 101. You’ll dive into swim related topics from men’s boardshorts and performance swimwear to bikinis and mastectomy swimsuits for the ladies. Other topics include thermal underwear, hosiery, shapewear and of course, sleepwear.

The only thing I really find lacking at swimwearandlingerie.com is a thorough treatment of women’s panties. When should a thong be worn? What color looks best under those tight white summer shorts? Why are they called boy shorts if they’re meant for ladies? Granted this topic requires a pre-requisite knowledge of the physics behind the visible panty line, but I think a basic overview of specific panty types is certainly warranted.

Despite my sole reservation, I think swimwearandlingerie.com is certainly worth checking out for a quick and dirty overview of the ins and outs of the garments that show the most skin.
