We had a great time last night, so thanks to all who participated in our live look at the underwear of the Academy Awards. here are our picks for the “Best Underwear in a Supporting Role” based on what we saw last night.

5) Gwyneth Paltrow. Gwyneth look much more buxom last evening than in years past, and we think that’s because she was finally wearing a supportive (probably padded) bra as opposed to going braless. Her back was bare, so she probably made use of something like the Donna Karan Intimates Solutions Backless Contour Bra. The folks over at Figleaves think she went the Strapless and Backless Wing bra route. On E!, there was speculation that she was braless, but we don’t think so. We think Gwyneth made great use of her underwear this year and looked fabulous. (and she also had a baby…)

4) Penelope Cruz was quite slim down the middle, thanks to some high waist panty shapers. We’re guessing something like the Spanx Power Panty Shapewear. In one photo, we were able to see a pretty distinct line high on her waist that was presumably the top of her Power Panties, and then another about 4 inches higher that was likely the bottom of her bra. It was just a consequence of the pose she happened to be in at the time. She looked great the rest of the night.

3) Jennifer Hudson swears by the Spanx Slim Cognito Shape Mid Thigh Bodysuit to smooth out and complement her luscious curves. She looked a little strange in her “Aluminum Foil” jacket, but fortunately, she removed it after the red carpet. Rachel spotted some bra exposure while she was singing on stage. It was “nude”. Overall, this best supporting actress was well supported herself.

2) Debbie Matenopoulos, the star of E!’s “The Daily 10″ and “Fashion Police” admitted to wearing her Spanx during a pre-show feature on shapewear. She claimed to be wearing something with a built in butt. Whatever it was, she looked great all over and appeared to be having a wonderful time during the countdown to the red carpet and during the red carpet arrivals themselves.

And the Oscar goes to…

1) Maggie Gyllenhaal. Maggie just had a baby in October and she showed up on the Red Carpet looking great. She told Sky’s red carpet reporter that she owed her smooth figure to a great pair of control knickers like the Miraclesuit Firm Control High Waist Brief. Here’s to Maggie for representing every woman on the red carpet and the stage this evening, and looking great doing it.

Remember, underwear isn’t just something that goes in between you and your clothes. It’s an important part of your wardrobe even when it’s not showing, as these classy ladies showed us last night.
