Product Review - NEW “Buxom Inc” Sleepwear

Influenced by the entrepreneurial environment she encountred when working at Yahoo!, and prodded by an inability to find sleepwear that fit the shape of a full busted but not plus-sized woman, Christine Kurek launched a sleepwear & loungewear label this year, Buxom Inc.

A job in a Nordstrom’s lingerie department worked to Christine’s advantage. There she was exposed to real customer needs and wants. Combining her lingerie retail sales experience with fashion design classes, Christine debuts with Buxom Inc.’s Fall 2008 Collection of sleep, loungewear and crossover pieces made for women with C-DD sized breasts. Products sell online at www.buxominc.com.

I tried 2 pieces from this collection. I’ve worn, washed, and reworn both nighties. The first was the grey and white toile printed “Cotton Print Chemise“. It has the same adjustable neckline I’ve seen on women in clubs. The 2nd is the pretty “Coral Cotton Chemise” made from super soft, supima cotton. Both feature a shelf bra with light elastic and best fit size C to DD cups.

Why do I enjoy this sleepwear? I have a real life. Sometimes I sleep at my in-law’s or a friend’s house when traveling, and all of my parts need to be covered. Sometimes my daughters have friends sleeping over and I want to watch a movie on the couch and still be comfortable. There are evenings that I come home from work and can’t wait to get my slacks & heels off, but know the UPS guy or kids’ carpool might show up soon. My nighties from Buxom Inc are comfy, casual and cover everything that needs to be covered.

The Look on the hanger: 8/10. The grey and white flowered chemise caught my eye because I love toile print. The coral nightgown has a ruched effect on the bust line, and I like coral with my dark hair. Both are short but not too short.

The Fit: 8/10. I find that these nighties run large. I usually grab a medium off the rack, but needed a small in the Buxom nighties. I don’t mind that at all, but you might if you’re a size 2/4 and the size small is too big for you.

The straps on the toile print chemise are partially adustable - they slide along the neckline. Once I positioned them, they stayed in place and my breasts stayed in place. I wonder if any nursing women have tried this style. If you have, let me know.

The coral nightie has a lower scooped neckline that my husband and I both thought was more flattering. It also had more shape in the body of the nightgown, hugging my curves - whereas the toile print nightie hung at an A-line. The coral is a thinner cotton - so it could be slightly see through or show nipple. And wrinkled a bit in the dryer. The toile print chemise was slightly heavier, providing more modesty.

When sleeping in them, they did not bunch up around my legs. That was a nice bonus.

The Feel: 10/10. Soft and stretchy, not itchy. No bunching. Not too long, not too short. (The coral one is slightly shorter, though.)

Overall: 9/10.
