Burlesque Fashion

The provocative costumes worn by Cher, Christina Aguilera, Julianne Hough and Kristen Bell in the new feature film Burlesque (and Christina Aguilera’s Burlesque performance at the AMA’s) feature fabulous fashion trends:

  • Lace: Intricate designs in dark shades create visual interest, depthand sex appeal.
  • Sequins & Embellishments: Shiny adornments on dresses, clutches, shoes and jewelry amp up your look in a big way – especially in the holiday season.
  • Peak-A-Boo Segments: Cutouts and black satin mesh overlays create illusion without showing too much.

Love these trends? Actual items worn in the movie were on sale recently on Seenon.com, including lingerie from Cosabella, Hanky Panky, and InBloom. We love the InBloom black and red scroll corset. The Merrywidow-corset with gathered net bodice has contrasting red scroll lace detail along the hips, bra cups and front princess seams.  Corset boning in front and back adds shape.  Removable, adjustable garters for sexy thigh highs.  Ribbon pleated embellishment on removable elastic straps. Closes with a row of hooks down the back and runs a cup size small.

Balconet bras, polka dots and high-waist briefs can all be found in the Affinitas Intimates and Parfait by Affinitas classic pin-up inspired styles sure to seduce any Mad Man. Skirted thongs add a modern edge.

For true Hollywood Glamor and sophisticated seduction, Rhonda Shear (best known as the late night host of USA Network’s television series “USA: Up All Night”) brings us Shear Intimates’ comfortable, beautiful and affordable garments made to fit the bodies of real women.

Bring a little Burlesque style to your New Years party with this sexy sequined minidress. Rather than simply covered in sequins like its cheaper imitators, this dress is textured with circles and sequins and features a flowy, sheer sleeve. You’ll love the flattering and dramatic look of Kahla without the huge price tag!

For see-through items or peek-a-boo clothing, Nippies, the first modern day pasties made from high-quality lingerie fabrics, feel comfortable, look beautiful and let you show a little skin without ‘giving away the farm’. Boring beige breast petals just don’t cut it under a designer dress or black mesh! And I hear Cher and Christina Aguilera are both Nippies fans!

After moving to our home town of St. Petersburg a couple years ago, she launched her own retail shop, Maison Rouge by Rhonda Shear, where women of all shapes, sizes and ages are sure to find that perfect something. We love their collection made with an exclusive Butterknit fabric – an incredibly soft, smooth blend that feels like air and looks like luxury. You will literally never want to take it off! It is super soft and lightweight – and comes in some hot colors. We love the “Sweet Pea” Lace Cup Gown in jade, which is like a deep teal. The lightly padded cups with floral lace overlay and adjustable straps are great for D-DDD cup sizes. Sheer floral lace in back is sexy while covered, and the shorter length won’t tangle in your legs overnight. For a longer, luxurious look, her “Harlow” lace trimmed gown has a plunge V-neckline front & back. Wide lace shoulder straps add coverage and support. The extra long length is great for tall women – we recommend it for 5’9 and taller. It’s unbelievable to look at the black gown with flounce at the bottom and know it’s still MACHINE WASHABLE!

Gotta love Nippies nipple covers, they totally make or break the burlesque-inspired outfit. It is especially awesome how they are self-adhesive unlike pasties, but you get the same sexy style without glue or the “ouch” factor when you take them off. Great post and fab suggestions on how to get the look!

  2. Love the sequin dresses- Cher always looked awesome on them. She still looks great today too!

  3. Jeff says:

That’s true. She looks pretty good for a 64 year old. Pretty sure there’s been some surgery there, though.
