What to wear under there: Bra Strap peek-a-boo

Bra strap peek-a-boo is a game some women are forced to play - even though it is not a fun one. Your cute sleeveless top is what people should be seeing, not your bra strap slowly sneaking down your shoulder. Or the one-fingered look you do trying to get your bra strap hidden again beneath your top while seeming nonchalant about it.
In the most recent E-Stylist post, there is a great Sleeveless Tie-Neck Shirt from Old Navy. I’m showing the Berry, they show the pinstriped. I’d wear this top to work with a cute knee-length skirt. But only if I was sure that there would be no game of Bra Strap peek-a-boo! That is the WORST in front of a client.
Here’s what to wear under there:
1. Wear the right size bra. I can’t stress this enough. The band of your bra - that’s the part around your chest under your breasts - is what actually does the boob-holding-up stuff. The band must fit properly or consequently your straps won’t fit right. They’ll be forced to do a job they were not meant to do. If you need to get sized, read our handy bra shopping article first.
2. Wear the right style bra. If you know you’re going to be in a sleeveless top that still has back coverage, like this one, try a racer back bra or convertible bra that can criss-cross. Some bras even have a little clip in the back so they can go from racer back to a regular 2-shoulder style with a simple click. (Well, not REAL simple, you have to be able to reach the middle of your back, or have someone clip it for you. I must look akward in the gym locker room doing mine, but I still do it.) With this top you can even get away with a halter style bra if the strap around the neck does not bother you.
3. Adjust your straps. Maybe they loosened up with wear. Maybe they slid around the last time you washed the bra. Or perhaps the bra has seen better days and the elastic in the straps is going bye-bye so they need to be readjusted. With some sleeveless tops, you can adjust the bra straps after your top is on, and you’ll easily be able to tell if they will still show or not.
4. Clear bra straps are an option. I’m not a big fan of those. If you really want NO strap showing, wear a strapless bra. Many convertible bras come with an extra pair of clear straps these days. You can also buy them separately.
