Looking Great on the Red Carpet
Posted by Jeff on Feb 20th, 2007
It’s almost time for the Oscars again. That means our favorite (and least favorite) stars will be prancing down the Red Carpet in a multitude of different fashions. Whole pre and post Oscars shows will be devoted to what the stars (particularly the ladies) wear to the Academy Awards ceremony this year.
In most cases, the ladies at the Academy Awards look wonderful in their designer gowns. How do they pull it off? They are human, aren’t they?  Although the scientific studies aren’t conclusive, the word on the street is that yes, these lovely ladies of the Red Carpet are indeed human. Even better, you don’t have to be a Hollywood starlet to use the same techniques to slimming and smoothing your shape.
The secret lies (as it often does here at the Intimate Guide) in the underwear. More specifically, in the shapewear. Although slimming, smoothing features are built right into the gowns of some Hollywood royalty, others rely on some pretty simple solutions.
You may think that having babies doesn’t seem to affect Hollywood actresses, but Reese Witherspoon would disagree. She uses shapewear to smooth her tummy in her form fitting gowns. New mom Katie Holmes’ shapewear was recently spotted by the paparazzi as her dress rode up her leg while she was getting out of her limo. Other stars, like Jennifer Aniston and Scarlett Johansson use shapewear to smooth and trim, even though they’ve yet to experience the tummy stretching effects of pregancy.
Oprah Winfrey loves her Spanx. She uses them to shape her butt and her tummy and is one of the most vocal advocates of shapewear among the rich and famous. So, don’t sell yourself short. Even the celebrities need a little help to fit into those gorgeous gowns. Next time you’re struggling to get that zipper up, or you find an unflattering bulge somewhere in your wardrobe, shapewear just may be your best friend.
The cool thing is that a lot of shapewear is coming in great styles too. Sure, a lot of it still looks like “granny panties”, but some of the newer styles are quite fashionable and even sexy. You can find a multitude of different styles for just about any shape at almost any lingerie shop, including Bare Neccessities, HerRoom, FigLeaves, Freshpair and One Hanes Place. Plus sized ladies will find great styles at justmysize.com.Â
[...] Jeff recently wrote about celebrities using shapeware to look slimmer for the Oscars. Well, I won’t be attending the Oscars any time soon - but I do have 2 grand events this weekend, so I decided to try a celebrity tip - Spanx. Spanx are a popular line of body slimming and body shaping garments, mainly consisting of under-garments. They started out with one item similar to control top pantyhose without feet, to tone butt, legs, thighs, etc. Oprah says these fabulous footless hose that “suck it all in” changed her life. Even Ellen DeGeneres has been tooting the horn of Spanx. [...]
