Buying a lingerie gift: A guide for men.
On the other hand, it’s not a completely selfish gift either. Women love lingerie. After all, the average woman gives more thought to the underwear she’s going to wear on any given day than we typically give to our underwear over the course of an entire year. Whether that’s a good thing or not is a topic for another day. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and we need to stay focused. How do you make sure it’s a gift she’ll truly love, and not one she’ll pretend to love?
1) One of the first things to consider is the way it feels. Would you want to wear something that felt like that? You might picture how sexy your woman will look in a lace teddy, but she’ll be awfully itchy. Try something made of silk or satin, high thread count cotton or lycra. She’ll love the way it feels on her body and so will you.
2) Make sure it fits. If it doesn’t fit, she won’t wear it. A proper fit is imperative for her to feel comfortable in her lingerie. How do you find the proper fit? The easiest way is to sneak a peak in her drawer. Do her panties fit her well now? See what size they are. How about her bra? Chances are she doesn’t know her proper bra size, but at least she’ll be close. Check out her dress size for good measure. With these three numbers, you should be able to find just about anything in just the right size.
3) Get the right look. If your girl is a laid back jeans and t-shirt type, go for something casual and flirty like a cami and tap short set. If she’s a true glamour girl, you might consider a long satin gown. If she’s a wild child, you both might enjoy a babydoll chemise with matching thong panties. Whatever you choose, make sure it fits her personality. It will show you truly know her and she’ll really love wearing it.
4) Get the right style. Different types of lingerie look better on different types of bodies. If she’s small on top, get her something that emphasizes her hips and legs, like a babydoll. If she’s larger on top than on the bottom, try a bustier. If she’s got an hourglass figure, she’ll look great in just about anything. If you know her well, you’ll know that she’s more proud of some parts of her body than she is of others. Find items that emphasize the parts she’s proud of, and she’ll love wearing them. Be careful, though. The opposite does not hold true. Do not buy items to specifically de-emphasize the parts she’s not proud of. If you buy her shapewear to slim down her tummy, for instance, she’ll likely become self conscious, thinking that you think that part of her is unattractive.
5) Choose the colors she likes. If you haven’t been observant enough to know her favorite colors, here are some general rules to guide you. Brunettes tend to look best in forest green, red, and deep blues. Blondes typically look best in pastel colors like baby blue, pink and lavender. Redheads look best in earthy colors like greens, rich blues, dark golds and browns. It’s usually hard to go wrong with something that compliments her eyes.
6) Presentation counts. If she buys you a 48” plasma TV, you won’t care what box it comes in, but she’ll enjoy the extra thought you put into presenting her special gift just the right way. This is your chance to show your creativity. When all else fails, though, a decorative bag with some tissue paper works quite well. To go the extra mile, you might also throw in some scented candles or massage oil to set the mood for your special evenings.
If you remember nothing else, remember to get her something she’ll like. At the end of the day, some lingerie you like on your woman is better than the lingerie you love in a drawer. Consider soft fabrics, her personality, and her body shape. Above all, make sure it fits.
One final note: If your lady has expressed a specific lingerie fantasy, throw my advice out the window. If she tells you she’d love to get dressed up in boots, fishnet stockings and a leather bustier, then go for it, my friend. That’s what I like to call a “hint”. If you’ve had no such hints and are clueless about where to start, then my advice should serve you well.
Good luck, and let me know how things go.

Wow Jeff! Great comments…from a man.
I remember that time you bought me a black, satin garter belt. You were the one who loved thigh highs and wanted to see me in a garter, but you knew I would like black, and the soft satin, and the way it hid my tummy.
As a brunette, I’d also like to add that purple and dark pink are good for brunettes. Aqua is a hot color for anyone right now. It’s the “in” thing.
